The Swimming Carnival of 2024 brought a cascade of colour, swimming prowess, fun and laughter into Week 3, drawing hundreds of students to the State Aquatic Centre at Marion for Henley High School’s annual event. The sight of students proudly donning their House colours and enthusiastically cheering on their peers was truly inspiring.

This year’s program was brimming with excitement, featuring novelty events interspersed with the more traditional ones. Every swimmer earned points across all events, vying for three coveted shields: Middle School, Senior School, and Overall. While competition remained fierce initially, a clear frontrunner emerged as the day progressed. The final results unfolded as follows:

Middle School Shield

Purple is the colour of the middle school, with Lowitja winning with 294 points. Congratulations, Lowitja!

Lowitja were followed by Mawson with 279, Oliphant with 265, Mitchell with 243 and Florey with 208.

Senior School Shield

The Florey Dragons were too strong in the senior school, taking out the top spot with 503 points.

This is followed by Mitchell on 331.5, Oliphant on 329.5, Lowitja on 316 and Mawson on 269.

Overall winners

That means the overall winners for the 2024 Swimming Carnival are:

Congratulations Florey who took out the top spot by a whopping 101 points, finishing on 711. Next up was Lowitja on 610, Oliphant on 594.5, Mitchell on 674.5 and Mawson on 548.

Standout performances

Additionally, several individuals delivered standout performances, setting 8 new records:

  • Emma F of Oliphant with U13 50m Backstroke and U13 50m Freestyle
  • Noah P of Lowitja with U21 50m Backstroke and U21 100m Freestyle
  • Izyus M of Oliphant with U14 Breaststroke and U14 50m Freestyle
  • Maisy P of Oliphant with U16 50m Backstroke
  • Zara D of Oliphant with U13 50m Breaststroke.

Champions

Congratulations were in order for the winners across various age groups:

  • U13: Zara D (Oliphant) and Jimmy T (Mawson)
  • U14: Beth G (Mitchell) and Izyus M (Oliphant)
  • U15: Olive C (Oliphant) and Ky M (Lowitja)
  • U16: Maisy P (Oliphant) and Finnian S (Florey)
  • U21: Amelia D (Mitchell) and Noah P (Lowitja).

Overall, the day proved to be a resounding success, with commendations extended to all participating students. The vibrant atmosphere, high standard of competition, and universal enjoyment made it a memorable event. Gratitude is also owed to the dedicated staff whose assistance ensured the smooth running of the carnival.
