Jackson Hefford wins 2023 SA Geographer’s Year 8 Fieldwork award
Back to NewsThe SA Geographers’ Fieldwork Awards is a competition run by the Geography Teachers’ Association of South Australia in conjunction with the Royal Geographical Society of South Australia. Each year, entries are judged by a panel of experts according to – originality of fieldwork techniques, creativity in conveying geographical information, and the strength of conclusions and recommendations.
In 2023, Jackson Hefford created his fieldwork on renewing the park in West Beach between Newlands and Mayfair Drive. Jackson’s report demonstrated his fieldwork techniques as well as his problem solving and creativity skills to create a solution to renew the park for the betterment of the neighbourhood.
He was presented the Year 8 award at a ceremony held in the Mortlock building at the State Library, which holds all the Royal Geographical Society books, maps and artefacts. The award was presented by Her Excellency the Honourable Frances Adamson AC and her husband Mr Rod Bunten, who are both patrons of the Royal Geographical Society.
Ms Adamson spoke about the importance that Geography plays in today’s society and because of the skills that Geographers learn, they are able to find work in a multitude of disciplines.
