The Specialist Athletics Program is based upon a periodisation training program that is aligned to the main Athletics SA winter season. Students have two 100 minute lessons per week over the whole year. 

Phase 1: Competitive preparation (Term 1 & 4)
Phase 2: Post competitive preparation (Term 2)
Phase 3: Pre competitive preparation (Term 3)

The training schedule supports a whole year development model focussing on preseason, in season and post season training methods.

  • Rehabilitation and recovery support

Focus: Pre competitive preparation phase:  Individual preparation
Key Practical Concepts: Core and speed training, power and speed training
Key Theoretical Concepts: Officiating technique analysis

Term 4

Focus: Competitive preparation phase:  Individual preparation
Key Practical Concepts:  Individual preparation on specific events
Key Theoretical Concepts: Performance Presentation

  • Team members have represented Henley High School at the National Knockout Athletics Championships competing in; Adelaide 2000, Geelong 2001, Brisbane 2003, Sydney 2005, Melbourne 2008 and 2010.
  • Junior Boys, National Silver Medallists, Melbourne 2008


Athletes within the program regularly access Specialist ATFCA Event coaches for specific training sessions in all events, including an introduction to Pole Vaulting.
